Gelato festival comes to Rome on May 29
Everybody (or so it seems) loves gelato. And the most pro-active gelato-lovers also like tasting a lot of the stuff in different gelaterie. A taster’s dream, therefore, will be the fourth edition of the Gelato Festival, which allows visitors to taste a variety of felato flavors and cocktails without having to spend much money. It will be in Rome at the Parco della Musica (Auditorium) for four days from Yjirsday, May 29 through Sunday, June 1. A special rechargeable, 12-euro card will allow the visitors a series of tastings and admission to lectures on the history of gelato and the methods of gelato-making.
In honor of the man said to have invented gelato, the Festival opened on May 1 in Florence, the first of ten different venues. The Florentine Renaissance genius, Bernardo Buontalenti, is said to have invented modern ice cream in 1565, when he presented his recipe and his innovative refrigerating techniques to Catherine de’ Medici, who as Queen consort later brought the novelty to France. .
